This was a really good, enjoyable, authentic, endearing book. Thoroughly enjoyable read. One of a kind, leaves you wanting more of the circus on the rails of the depression era. I also love first-person novels that stay on plot and Gruen doesn’t disappoint there.

I TOTALLY disagree with another reviewer who said Gruen over-anthropomophized and over-romanticized the animals in the story! Hardly. If anything, if Jacob is a vet, we read very little of him doing his job in context of the story. And anyone who’s around animals or has worked with animals can hardly fail to form emotional attachments to them.

When I finished WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, I like I felt when I finished reading FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE and SEABISCUIT.

After living in the United States for a few years (see DELIA’S CROSSING), poor Mexican girl Delia Yebarra still feels like a stranger in a strange land. She returned to her homeland briefly with Ignacio Davila after his role on the death of the person who raped Delia was known by everyone. Everyone but his family and Delia thinks he is dead and Ignacio wanted Delia to return to her Aunt Isabelle’s Palm Springs estate. Isabelle believes her niece is an impoverished wetback, whom she treats like a servant rather than a relative. Her son Edward blackmails his mom into giving Isabella similar opportunities as his sister Sophie has.

Sophie hates Delia while is also jealous of as important people seem to always defend her. She tries to destroy her cousin by telling her mom lies and spreading rumors that Delia cannot disprove. When Adam Bovio starts paying attention to Delia, Isabella is thrilled because his family is rich high society starting with his father running for senator. Outraged and envious Sophie vows to send Delia back to Mexico anyway she can.

The lifestyle of the children of the wealthy prominent high society families come across as vapid, causing trouble a mainstay to keep the ennui abated. Delia lived a simple life in Mexico so has major adjustments to being part of the rich and famous crowd while also wondering if she is running from her roots. Readers will admire and like this conflicted person and hope she finds what she wants. Her female cousin and aunt are over the top of the Sierras as villains and the story line somewhat mirrors the first tale; yet fans of V.C. Andrews will enjoy this fine entry and look forward to the next Delia Cinderella like story.

I bought this at the recommendation of my doctor to start walking 10,000 steps everyday. I looked up the highest rated pedometer on consumer reports and this was it. Consumer reports has not steered me wrong yet. Compared to 3 other pedometers that my mother and sisters have bought at Target and Wal-Mart, mine is more accurate and more sturdy. I would highly recommend this pedometer to anyone who wants to count their steps.

I bought the Kindle prior to a 2-week trip to China, knowing that I had long flights and no room to carry books with me. Also, it is often difficult to find English books in foreign countries. This worked perfectly. I down-loaded 3 books before I left home, and when I had finished those, I down-loaded another in Shanghai and one in Beijing. It was easy to carry, and pull out anywhere to read a few pages. I look forward to having it with me all the time.

I really like my itouch. AT&T has terrible coverage in my area so this was the next best thing. I seem to use it all the time for note taking, shopping lists, and recording my mileage for tax purposes. Most of the apps I use I’ve paid for. the free ones are OK, but the really good ones seem to cost something.

I wish it had a camera, but perhaps the next model will. that seems to be the only thing that I find lacking. It will be nice when they activate the wireless “n”which they say is built in but not being used.

I download my favorite tv shows and watch them and the screen resolution is really very good.

the sound – without some type of headset or accessory isn’t very loud no matter what you do and the earphones that come with it don’t fit my ears so I’ve had to buy others.

Great product. I bought the square trade warranty and used a coupon for that.

Overall? I really love my little Itouch.

Don’t spend lots of money on HDMI cables when you can get them cheaply on Amazon. Unlike cables used for analog audio and video where poor quality can affect the quality of the signal, digital signals either make it through the cable or they don’t. In the case of the DVI Gear HDMI cable I bought for less than $3 (including shipping!) it worked, so it is as good as any other cable for a fixed installation. I use the term “fixed” because there is an argument for spending more money on a higher quality cable if it is used for portable equipment that is going to be connected, disconnected, and wrapped up many times. In my case however, this cable meets my needs while saving me lots of dollars that would otherwise be wasted on a name-brand (do I hear Monster) cable.

I love the furmiator. My dog get one of the thickest winter coats which takes a long time to come out and ends up all over the house with me vacuuming several times a week. In about 30 minutes time, I can get rid of most of this. I let my mom borrow it and she never gave it back…LOL so I ordered another one for this season.

I highly recommend this!

I picked up Twilight one day just to see what the big hype was about. I’m not into vampire novel’s nor have I ever read one.

But this book sucked me in. It sucked me in good too. Twilight is an addicting book, as soon as you put it down, you want to pick it up and read more of it. Who is Edward and what’s up with Bella? Who’s Jacob and why would Edward just be honest with Bella?

For some people, this book will open a whole new world to them. It’ll remind you of the feeling of falling in love for the first time, at least that’s the best way I can describe it and I don’t mean with Edward Cullen, I mean in general. Face it, Edward doesn’t have much of a personality to fall in love with. But there’s just something so addicting about this book and about this story about two creatures who aren’t suppose to be together. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s forbidden, maybe it’s the thrill of the thought of dating a vampire, maybe its because Bella keeps making things difficult or maybe you just want to see if Edward will give in an kill the girl. No matter what it is, this book will grab you and won’t let go!
